Today, The Fund for Animals released the names of dozens of Hollywood producers, directors, and actors who have vowed to shun Pennsylvania as a film location until the state bans live pigeon shooting contests, such as the one held on Labor Day in Hegins, Schuylkill County.

Joining the "Producers Against Pennsylvania's Violent Pigeon Shoots" campaign, among many others, are:

Governor Tom Ridge visited Hollywood in March in an effort to recruit film industry dollars to Pennsylvania, and to meet with producers about ending youth violence on the screen. Says Heidi Prescott, National Director of The Fund for Animals, "It is the height of hypocrisy for Governor Ridge to preach about the dangers of youth violence, but to ignore an event in his own backyard where children are taught that violence is fun. If one producer chooses not to use Pennsylvania as a film location because of the pigeon shoot, it will cost the state millions of dollars. Hasn't the shoot already cost the state enough?"

Alec Baldwin wrote in a letter to Governor Ridge, "While other parts of the country and even some parts of your state embrace a more humane outlook toward all animals, Schuylkill County and the promoters of the barbaric pigeon shoot choose to remain in the Dark Ages . . . This event is a slaughter and an embarrassment to the residents of your state."
